Summer Safety Reminders
With the summer holidays fast approaching it is really important that you keep yourself safe while enjoying your time away from school. Read the tips below to remind you of how to stay safe this summer:
1. ☀️Sun safety: Make sure you always wear sunscreen if you are spending prolonged periods in the sun and reapply every 2 hours. Remember to drink water regularly (even if you are not thirsty) to stop yourself from becoming dehydrated.
2. 🌊Water safety: If you are lucky enough visit any beaches this summer make sure you only swim in designated areas where it’s safe and there are lifeguards around. Never swim alone and know your limits. Don’t go in unknown bodies of water where you could easily be out of your depth or faced with unpredictable currents.
3. 🚴♂️Travel safety: If you are travelling around on bikes or scooters this summer make sure you always wear a helmet, follow the rules of the road checking for cars and pedestrians, and always keep your phone away (in your pocket or bag).
4. 🫂Social safety: Socialising with friends and family can be a great use of your summer holidays but make sure your parents/ an older sibling knows where you are and what you are doing at all times. Share your location. Stay aware of your surroundings and trust your gut - if something feels wrong it probably is. Don’t let peer pressure make you do things you are uncomfortable with and think before you post things online.
5. 🏠Home safety: If you are home alone make sure doors and windows are locked and never open the door to strangers. Don’t leave cooking or candles unattended and make sure you don’t overload electrical sockets.
